first_imgRegional airline Varsity Express will introduce new flights to Newcastle from Oxford this spring.Services will operate each weekday afternoon using a BAE Jetstream 31 aircraft, with the north-east city becoming the carrier’s second Oxford destination.Varsity also confirmed that its weekly flights to Edinburgh, due to commence on March 1st, will expand to a twice-weekly service on April 5th.Martin Halstead, the airline’s director, said he is “delighted” to announce the launch of a second domestic route.”Newcastle is a popular university city and we expect a good mix of business travellers, many from the automotive industry…and leisure traffic,” he commented.”[The city] is also renowned for its music and arts centres, shopping and exciting night life.”Varsity Express promises a “business class-style service” on its flights, with passengers benefiting from leather seating and a range of onboard refreshments.The carrier is backed financially by a private consortium made up of UK and Spain-based investors.
