first_imgAn unlicensed single-barrel shotgun and four cartridges were on Sunday unearthed at a mining camp at 13 Miles, Arakaka, North West District (NWD). Based on reports, the Police received information and went to the area where a search was conducted, thus leading to the discovery of the gun and ammunition.The gun and matching ammunition found at Arakaka, NWDNo arrests have been made as Police continue investigations. Recently, the Guyana Police Force reported that some 67 illegal firearms were seized between January and September. These include 29 pistols, 21 revolvers and 17 shotguns.Only on Saturday, a Providence, East Bank Demerara man was arrested with an illegal .9mm pistol and 12 matching rounds of ammunition at “WarLock”, East Ruimveldt, Georgetown. The miner reportedly went to visit his girlfriend when the Police carried out a raid and the illegal gun and ammunition were retrieved after he was seen disposing of same.last_img read more

Bandits chop Linden fireman

first_img― victim in critical conditionA Lindener who was severely chopped on Wednesday, remains in critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC). The victim has been identified as Masimba Sampson, 30, a fireman from Wismar, Linden.According to reports, Sampson was chopped about his body, including his face and head, by four armed bandits who lured him out of his home. Reports indicate that the four bandits were armed with a gun, but the victim during the scuffle, managed to secure the weapon. It was at this point that the bandits carried out the cutlass attack. They then fled the scene and Sampson was rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex (LHC) but was transferred to the GPHC.Following the incident, ranks from the Wisroc Police Outpost were summoned to the scene, but the perpetuators had already fled.One of Sampson’s neighbours reported hearing a commotion around 22:00h but noted that they did not suspect that anything sinister was amiss. According to a resident, the fireman was also involved in the sale of lands and it is widely speculated that the bandits were of the opinion that he had lots of cash in his possession.It is unclear whether any cash was taken from the home.Investigations are ongoing.last_img read more
