first_imgby Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — The Wellington Cross Country team opened its season on Tuesday and will prepare for the home invitational on Saturday… the Wellington girls tennis team hosted another tournament… Wellington Middle School results and more….Wellington Cross Country in Valley Center The Crusader cross country team opened it season in Valley Center on a hot and windy day around the Kansas Coliseum.Joe Friesen and Jo Tredway medalled for Wellington. Tyler Brown medalled for the boys in the seventh grade boys.The full results are as follows:  Raeawna Nutt9.3974th Joe Friesen13.2612thYES Quinn McCue8.1678th Wellington Invitational set for SaturdayIn what is considered one of the biggest athletic events in Wellington, the cross country team will be hosting its annual cross country meet at Hargis Creek this Saturday for both middle school and high school runners. The race is on North Day St., north of the Wellington Steakhouse complex on the east side of town. There will be 34 teams competing with about 500 to 600 runners.The races begin at 8 a.m. with middle school races followed by high school race.Wellington High School girls tennis team takes quadWellington had two teams competing in its second invitational of the year at the Sellers Park Tennis Courts. The White team won with 32 points. Wichita Collegiate had 25, Chaparral 13, Wellington Red (with only two entries) 12, Kingman 6.The Crusader medalists were:No. 1 doubles Maggie Fink and Mekenna Adams 4-0, first.No. 2 singles Lexi Saffell 3-1, first.No. 2 doubles Dietra Sober and Cajen Shore. 4-0, first.No. 1 singles Auni Williams  2-1. Tied for first but took third on percentage points.No. 1 doubles Noelle Wright and Alexis Hinman. 2-2, third.No. 2 doubles Jaylynn Luna and Kayma Brand 3-1, second.Quote from Aufdengarten: It was a good day for us today.
