first_imgJob DescriptionVirginia Tech’s Hampton Roads Agricultural Research and ExtensionCenter is recruiting a full-time postdoctoral associate to join amultistate, transdisciplinary team investigating the boxwood blightpathogen biology and epidemiology, and developing practical andsustainable management solutions for this disease. Boxwood is theNo. 1 evergreen shrub crop in the U.S., and an iconic plant inAmerican landscapes, including many historic gardens. Boxwoodblight is an emerging disease that is affecting everyone on thehorticultural chain from grower to consumer, while posing anincreasing risk to the American boxwood heritage.This is one of the three postdoctoral positions we are recruitingfor the project. These postdoctoral associate positions presenttremendous opportunities not only to shape the future of boxwoodand boxwood heritage through research and development but also toset a new model for plant biosecurity in the 21st century throughstakeholder partnership and international collaboration. The postdoctoral associate positions are great opportunities for juniorscientists to develop and advance their professional career byhoning their skills and connecting with peers and industryleaderships. Self-motivated scientists with a doctoral degreeawarded no more than four years prior to the effective date ofappointment with a minimum of one year of eligibility remaining areencouraged to apply. All postdoctoral associates are required topublish their research results in a timely manner. The postdoctoralposition may have some managerial opportunities/responsibilities.These include: (1) to facilitate internal communications among 14(co-)Project Directors (PD) and their associates at twelveinstitutions/labs located in seven states, a 10-member advisorypanel (AP) representing different sectors of the environmentalhorticulture industry across the country, and many stakeholder andinternational collaborators, (2) to coordinate and reviewindividual teams’ quarterly progress reports then assemble theminto a quarterly newsletter and share with AP and otherstakeholders, and (3) to schedule and organize quarterly projectmeetings (online only) and annual meetings, while assisting theExtension Team to translate research results into relevant outreachmaterials.This position is available on September 1, 2020. The postdoctoralassociate will be housed in the Hong Lab. This position is benefiteligible and salary will be commensurate with experience. Thispostdoctoral associate will also receive close mentoring from otherprojectleaders and Co-PDs of respective subject areas at collaboratinginstitutions in addition to Virginia Tech.
