first_imgOctober 24, 2019 /Sports News – Local Utah Football Earns Various Mid-Season Honors FacebookTwitterLinkedInEmailSALT LAKE CITY-Ahead of Utah’s (6-1, 3-1 in Pac-12 play) Saturday evening home game against California, several stand-outs for the No. 12 Utes have achieved mid-season honors or on watch lists for prestigious postseason awards.Senior defensive tackle Leki Fotu has been named to the second teams of the Midseason The Associated Press and The Atheltic’s respective All-American teams.This season, the senior out of West Valley City and Herriman, Utah, has 5.5 tackles for a loss, 15 total tackles, two passes defensed and a forced fumble.Also making The Athletic’s second team is junior defensive back Jaylon Johnson. The native of Fresno, Calif. has one interception and eight passes defensed, as well as 21 total tackles for the Utes this season.Head coach Kyle Whittingham has been named to the watch lists for the Paul ‘Bear’ Bryant and the Bobby Dodd Trophy Coach of the Year midseason awards.Senior signal-caller Tyler Huntley has been named as a finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm award.Huntley ranks 7th nationally in passing efficiency (180.10) and fifth in completion percentage (74 percent), having completed 111 of 150 passes on the season for nine touchdowns and one interception.Senior tailback Zack Moss is a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award. Moss is currently the all-time leading rusher in program history with 3,264 yards and 31 touchdowns on the ground in his career with the Utes.This season, Moss has 93 carries for 613 yards and eight scores. His 6.6 yards per carry ranks 15th nationally.Redshirt freshman offensive lineman Braeden Daniels has been named to the Football Writers Association of America’s freshman All-American team watch list as well. He is a 6-4, 300-pound native of Carrollton, Texas.
