Chelsea target Kepa pays Athletic Bilbao buyout clause

first_img“At 12:02 p.m. (1002 GMT) on Wednesday, August 8, La Liga informed our club that the player, Kepa Arrizabalaga, had met the conditions to unilaterally break his contract that linked him to Athletic Club,” the Spanish side said in a statement.“The amount of the compensation established in the contract has been deposited.“Athletic thanks the player for his contribution during the time he has remained in our club.”In Spain, instead of the buying club paying the selling club the amount set by the contract, the player must buy himself out. This is done by depositing the amount of the buyout clause with La Liga to release the player. La Liga then pass the money onto the selling club.Chelsea’s move for Kepa comes with Belgium number one Courtois strongly linked with Real Madrid, having yet to report to training with the Premier League club following the World Cup.Kepa has played 53 times in La Liga for Bilbao over the last two seasons, and made his international debut in a 5-0 friendly win over Costa Rica in November 2017.He was also in the Spain squad for the recent World Cup in Russia as back-up to David De Gea, but did not get any playing time.Kepa signed a new long-term contract, which increased his release clause from 20 million euros, with Athletic in January to end speculation linking him with a move to Real. The European champions are instead on the verge of completing a reported 35-million-euro deal for Courtois, who was voted the best goalkeeper at the World Cup.Courtois, who spent three seasons at Atletico Madrid from 2011 to 2014, has repeatedly stated his desire to move closer to his two children in the Spanish capital. However, Real coach Julen Lopetegui refused to comment on the speculation following his team’s 2-1 victory over Roma in the final game of their US pre-season tour on Tuesday.“I always say that I’m not talking about players who’re not at Real Madrid,” said Lopetegui. “Keylor (Navas) is our goalkeeper and there are no other goalkeepers I can talk about except Keylor, Kiko (Casilla), Andriy (Lunin) and Luca (Zidane).“Keylor is phenomenal, he has our full confidence and is an extraordinary goalkeeper. He’s delighted to belong to Real Madrid and we’re delighted with him.”0Shares0000(Visited 2 times, 1 visits today) 0Shares0000Kepa Arrizabalaga is on the verge of moving to Chelsea in a world-record deal for a goalkeeper © AFP/File / PIERRE-PHILIPPE MARCOUMadrid, Spain, Aug 8 – Athletic Bilbao said on Wednesday that Kepa Arrizabalaga has paid his 80-million-euro ($93 million) buyout clause, paving the way for the Spain international to join Chelsea as the world’s most expensive goalkeeper. The 23-year-old is expected to replace Thibaut Courtois at Stamford Bridge for a record fee that would surpass the 72.5 million euros Liverpool paid Roma for Brazilian Alisson last month.last_img read more

For Startups, Sometimes Good News is No News

first_imgThere’s an old saying that “any press is good press,” which for a company means it is ultimately beneficial to be mentioned in the media regardless of whether said mention is positive or negative. But there’s also a time when good press, while positive in nature, is not necessarily meaningful to the company overall. Don Rainey, investor at Grotech Ventures and author of the blog VC in DC, recently wrote about “5 Pieces of good news you should ignore,” referring to positive things that he believes are really meaningless when it comes to the success of your company.“When you’re running a company, one quickly becomes acquainted with the thought that everything matters … and in that, one is mostly but not completely right.” writes Rainey. “The surprise is that most of the stuff that turns out not to matter is good news. That is to say, positive events that don’t translate into anything additive to the company’s growth.”Three of Rainey’s five examples of when good news is fruitless include media coverage. Being written up in a local paper, placed atop a list by a trade publication or even interviewed on national television isn’t anything to get terribly excited about, he says. “Just consider it a break from the daily routine,” he adds. “You still have to concentrate on communicating your value proposition to probable suspects.”Without naming names, Rainey also advises companies to not take too much pride in trade show awards. He says we should be “profoundly suspect” of these awards which he believes go to the company that buys the biggest booth. Finally he says that companies should not be flattered by calls from what he calls “powerless” bigwigs at large corporations. “Many a small company will find itself turned on its head chasing a huge opportunity that is only [the] product of [a] bureaucrat’s search for meaning,” Rainey writes.Sure these are all positive things to have happen to a young company; being written about in a respected publication, or featured on national television is indeed an accomplishment, but Rainey warns to not become overzealous and flaunt these happenings. A pitch ultimately shouldn’t hinge on press coverage, awards and fancy endorsements when providing evidence of traction. Instead of touting your various accolades, place your trophies aside and focus on the task at hand – convincing the VCs that your product has inherent value. first_imgFormer Arsenal player Santi Cazorla has revealed he is delighted to be back on the field of play– after fearing the worst for his career.Santi Cazorla, 33, suffered a nightmare injury and was given a bad prognosis by medics who told him, he would be lucky even to play football with his son at one point. Ferdinand goes after Neymar and Mbappés poor defending

first_imgThe former Manchester United defender had the roughest criticism against Neymar and Mbappé’s lack of defensive commitment to PSG.It’s only been a day since Liverpool defeated PSG in a thrilling Champions League match, this has been more than enough time for Neymar and Kylian Mbappé to get trashed from all over the world but Rio Ferdinand is the one who nailed it best. The former Manchester United player and BT Sports pundit right now, took some time to describe the reason he thinks the biggest responsibility for the French club’s loss last Tuesday, falls on both the Brazilian and the French wonder kid. Rio described perfectly how any great club that has hopes to win any title in Europe, must have their strikers as the very first line of defense and not having that perfectly clear brings painful defeats like the one Paris Saint-Germain suffered at Anfield Road. Just last week during Diego Simeone’s interview to Cadena Cope, the Atletico Madrid manager weighed in on who he would pick to play for his squad and his favorite player completely threw him under the bus: “Between Neymar and Mbappé, I would pick Ney for his defensive work. He worked a lot defensively in Luis Enrique’s Barcelona. Mbappé is a lot more selfish and still doesn’t have a defined position while Neymar does,” said Simeone who may have swallowed his words last Tuesday. The criticism against Neymar is coming from every single newspaper around the world, but the French media is the one that doesn’t accept that the most expensive player in the world hasn’t been important during a single crucial match in the two seasons he has played for PSG so far. The pundits from several debate tables in France completely blame the Brazilian over the French club’s defeat, but they also go after Mbappé by calling him ‘immature’ and ‘inexperienced’ for these types of important matches. It didn’t matter that the young world champion scored the equalizer that gave PSG a little hope during the game, losing the ball right before Roberto Firmino’s winning goal is what triggered this reaction from them. The general consensus is that the media believes that Neymar and Mbappé are getting a little too comfortable in Ligue 1, which is clearly a lesser league compared to the major four competitions in the continent. But the solution doesn’t seem as easy as it looks, because both Neymar and Mbappé will keep playing in France week after week and they will keep facing low-quality clubs in the country.?Neymar and Mbappe walked alone?PSG lost to a ‘great European’?’Four lungs’ Trent and ‘phenomena’ Robertson impress?Reds won the midfield battleFrench media have had their say on PSG’s defeat to #LFC ??— Liverpool FC News (@LivEchoLFC) September 19, 2018PSG, Neymar, Ligue 1PSG ultras sent a warning letter to Neymar Manuel R. Medina – September 14, 2019 Brazilian superstar Neymar might play today his first game of the season for Paris Saint-Germain and the team’s ultras have warned him. However, the most painful criticism came from Rio Ferdinand himself, who is an expert in analyzing the best players in the world given that he shared a locker room with Cristiano Ronaldo and was one of the defenders who pushed the Portuguese player to make a greater defensive effort for his teammates at Manchester United. Rio Ferdinand knows that the ones who need to get some sense into both Neymar and Mbappé, are the defense leaders like Thiago Silva or Dani Alves who can sit down and have a talk with both players: “This just really shows to young players that are watching the game that no matter how much talent you have as an individual, you have to buy into the team work ethic. You have to buy into the structure of the team for you to be able to then have the platform to play as well. On far too many occasions we saw [Neymar], not only him but Mbappe as well, too narrow, not worrying about their defensive responsibilities at all. This team disappointed us today. I said before it was like a testimonial, the pace in which they played the game. So they have to change that if they’re going to be any type of contender. I don’t see them as a contender,” said Rio Ferdinand on BT Sports.”A lot of people say Neymar is the best in the world – but… there is no way he would suit #LFC and Jurgen Klopp.”John Barnes has hit out at Neymar and Kylian Mbappe⬇️⬇️— Liverpool FC News (@LivEchoLFC) September 19, 2018What do you think Neymar and Mbappé need to do in order to win key matches for PSG? first_imgLuis Suarez will welcome Frenkie De Jong to Barcelona with open arms, but warned the young star he won’t “solve anything either”.The Ajax midfielder will join Barcelona for next season on a five-year contract in a €75m deal that includes bonuses of €11m.Ernesto Valverde’s side faced stiff competition from Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City in order to sign De Jong. There has certainly been a lot of hype surrounding the 21-year-old recently, who has even been compared to the iconic Barcelona duo Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez. But Blaugrana striker Suarez insists De Jong must not get carried away at Camp Nou, while discussing his summer arrival.“Yes, of course. He’s a player the whole of Europe is talking about,” Suarez told Sport on how excited everyone at Barcelona is over De Jong“We’ll be waiting here with open arms because he’s a great player but we also need to make sure he isn’t under too much pressure.“He’s come to help the team but he needs to understand that he isn’t here to solve anything either.”Gerard Pique, Neymar, BarcelonaLa Liga Betting: Match-day 4 Stuart Heath – September 14, 2019 Despite it being very early into La Liga season, both Barcelona and Real Madrid have had unprecedented starts to their campaigns. It’s the same with me. If they bring in a 22-year-old striker, I think that’s great.“It’s another player who will learn and adapt to what is Barcelona. Emiliano Sala search team recover body

first_imgThe search team for striker Emiliano Sala and pilot David Ibbotson have recovered a body from the plane wreckage. The body was pulled out of the water in “as dignified a way as possible” by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) through the use of specialist contractors on Wednesday night.A remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) was used to help the search and to later recover the discovered body found in the wreckage. The Piper Malibu N264DB itself, which disappeared two weeks ago across the English Channel while flying from Nantes to Cardiff, had been found in Guernsey on February 3.This was thanks to the efforts of a privately funded search team with marine scientist and oceanographer David Mearns finding the plane in a matter of hours using sonar technology and remote-controlled submersibles. Now the Daily Mirror reports that the body found was taken to the Isle of Portland and would later be sent to the Dorset coroner with no further updates in regards to who it is being issued right now.The plane, on the hand, remains 67 metres underwater as the privately funded search team were unable to recover it due to the bad weather conditions. An AAIB spokesman said: “Unfortunately, attempts to recover the aircraft wreckage were unsuccessful before poor weather conditions forced us to return the ROV to the ship.“The weather forecast is poor for the foreseeable future and so the difficult decision was taken to bring the overall operation to a close.AAIB responds to Sala’s family request to recover the plane’s wreckage Manuel R. Medina – August 14, 2019 The Air Accidents Investigation Branch says they already explained their decision not to recover the plane’s wreckage to Sala’s family and the pilot’s.“In challenging conditions, the AAIB and its specialist contractors successfully recovered the body previously seen amidst the wreckage.“The operation was carried out in as dignified a way as possible and the families were kept informed of progress.”Meanwhile, it’s since emerged that Nantes are demanding the £15m fee that they had agreed on with Cardiff City for the sale of Sala last month. This comes despite the fact that the Argentine striker had never got the opportunity to even play for his new club.💛sala💚🙏🏻😢I pray for your souls. I will not forget you. It was a player loved by a lot of fans. It is truly sad.#sala— 🦓ͲϴᎷϴ🦓 (@gkjuventus) February 5, 2019last_img read more
