Paris, July 24: Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Edison Cavani will not feature in Paris Saint-Germain’s roster for the 2018 Asia Tour in Singapore and China due to recovery from their international duties at the FIFA World Cup.The Ligue 1 champions unveiled a 24-member squad before heading to Singapore on Tuesday afternoon, featuring Italian legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, who joined PSG from Juventus this summer.Other prominent names in the roster included Lassana Diarra, Layvin Kurzawa, Adrien Rabiot and Marco Verratti.Julian Draxler, Kevin Trapp and Giovani Lo Celso, coming back from vacation after the World Cup, were also included in the squad.Another outstanding absentee for Thomas Tuchel-coached PSG was Argentine winger Angel Di Maria.PSG said that Goncalo Guedes and Jese Rodriguez will train at the Ooredoo Training Center, and Grzegorz Krychowiak has been granted permission to stay in Paris, which was interpreted as a signal of possible future transfer for the three.PSG will put on two International Champions Cup matches in Singapore, against Arsenal coached by Unai Emery, PSG’s head coach last term, and UEFA Europa League defending champions Atletico Madrid, before heading to China. In China, PSG will play against Monaco in French Super Cup in Shenzhen on August 4. Share Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest There are late reports of frogeye developing on susceptible cultivars in southern Ohio. So the next question is what to do. During 2005-2008, we were able to measure a mean difference in yield of five to 10 bushels per acre when soybeans were treated at R3 in fields where frogeye was present. We have also been able to measure a greater yield difference on highly susceptible varieties when frogeye was present during the early flowering stages. However, last year, when frogeye was less than one spot per 40 feet on a moderately susceptible variety, and the conditions were very dry and warm over the next two weeks, we could not measure any yield effect — although we could measure differences in the level of disease.Conditions for frogeye leaf spot are cooler (below 80 degrees F), heavy dews, and frequent rains. Frogeye has a long latent period of seven to 10 days, which is the time from infection to symptom development and sporulation. Interestingly, it will only infect new foliage, not the older foliage in the lower canopy. If frogeye can readily be found in the field, in a highly susceptible variety then:• If your soybeans are in the later growth stages (R4 & R5 or greater), and the beans are finished flowering and beginning to fill, there is no need to spray. What lesions will form will be few and will have little impact on yield.• If your soybeans are at R3, they still have more growth to fill out, it is a high yielding field, rains and favorable conditions for infection, our data indicates that you should be able to measure yield differences of five bushels or greater. The next question is which fungicide to use. There are many populations in the region that are no longer controlled by the strobilurin fungicides. Therefore, any fungicide that is used, should not be one of these, and that leaves primarily the triazoles. They are all effective, so price of fungicide and application costs should be a consideration here. Finally, leave check strips. And leave at least three untreated strips and make notes on how much disease was present and the growth stage. This will improve decision making in the future.

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — Christian Pineda plays a lot of video games, but he’s best at “Minecraft.” Hunched over a laptop in the front row of a half-full movie theatre last month, the 13-year-old eagerly showed off why.“I basically know the controls like the back of my hand,” he said before turning his focus back to a tight match against a rival team from Boston. Christian claims to be shy at school, but here, he’s a vocal leader on a New York team of nearly 20 esports competitors, some as young as 6 years old. With a spot in the league finals on the line, Christian tapped away at his keyboard and excitedly discussed tactics with teammates. The group was strategizing over pickaxes and archers, not pitchers and catchers, but the focus on teamwork and communication could have come straight from the bench at a youth baseball game.At Super League Gaming events like this, that’s the goal.“Like Little League for esports,” says Super League CEO Ann Hand.Super League is trying to bring structure to an industry devoid of it at the youth level. The organization was founded in 2015 and runs national leagues for three esports games: “Minecraft” for players in elementary and middle school, and “League of Legends” and “Clash Royale” for older players. Kids are often introduced to competitive video games via “Minecraft” before graduating to “League of Legends,” giving them a place to train and play throughout their teenage years and beyond — the “League of Legends” competitions don’t have an age limit. Super League Gaming has tens of thousands of players, although not all attend every live event, and its “Minecraft” championship has been turned into a reality TV show on Nickelodeon. The hope is that Super League can close a major gap in the esports ecosystem for young gamers, particularly in the U.S. The industry is set to eclipse $1 billion soon, and there are more professional opportunities than ever. Pros in the NA LCS — the top North American “League of Legends” circuit — averaged over $300,000 in salary this season, and many colleges now provide esports scholarships. Careers in esports coaching or game design are increasingly in demand, too.But to pursue those jobs, players need to start early. Esports pros often peak in their early 20s, and elite talents in countries like South Korea are being identified before reaching middle school. The relatively weak U.S. gamer pool is holding back North American franchises from competing on an international stage. Esports powerhouse Cloud9 became the first NA LCS club to even make the semifinals at the League of Legends World Championship this year, and it only had one U.S. player in its starting lineup. The lacklustre American feeder system was a talking point when NA LCS franchise owners met this summer.“A lot of our amateur system has fallen away,” said NA LCS Commissioner Chris Greeley. “I think we all agree that it is shallower right now than it could be and should be.”Riot Games, which publishes “League of Legends” and manages its professional circuits, is partnered with Super League and hopes the organization can boost the reputation of American gaming. Super League uses proprietary software to pair players with competition at the appropriate skill level, and its weekly in-person events allow for stronger development than if players were left to practice alone. Super League also makes it easier for pro franchises to scout players and evaluate their talent and makeup.“You can’t really just look at the best players online and use that as your primary way to find the next great pro because the problem is that you don’t know a lot about their behaviours,” Hand said. “Will they be able to handle the pressure of being at the Staples Center or Madison Square Garden?”Just like Little League, it’s not strictly about churning out elite talent. Super League also creates an in-person sense of community around gaming, one that allows parents to watch and even coach. Some have concerns about their kids spending too much time on screens, but at least with Super League, gaming happens in a social, supervised space — better than playing solo in a basement or bedroom.“It’s one of the best decisions we’ve made,” said Alon Rothschild, who drives his 11-year-old son, Frankie Capello, over an hour from Staten Island to compete with New York’s “Minecraft” team. The co-ed organization provides players with uniforms, tech support and access to its digital platform, which allows players to log into Super League competitions from anywhere. But it’s the in-person events that pull kids in.“You’re actually sitting next to each other and you’re talking,” Frankie said. “When you’re talking, you basically are getting the better experience with your friends. I love talking with my friends and doing this.”The league hasn’t turned out any professional players, though it’s taking steps to ramp up its gamer development. It has created a training program within its software for at-home use and is offering boot camps focused on helping players improve. Hand wants to begin hiring former professional gamers to coach at Super League events, too.Super League is also eyeing expansion into games like “Fortnite.” Although Super League’s player base is believed to be the largest of its kind in the U.S., it still represents a sliver of the gaming world, leaving a lot of room for growth before Super League is as synonymous with esports as Little League is with baseball.Getting there could be a boon in an already booming industry.“A kid who does play Little League is an MLB fan for life,” Hand said. “Cultivating that future fan through our youth leagues is really essential.”___Follow Jake Seiner: https://twitter.com/Jake_Seiner___More AP esports: https://apnews.com/Esports and https://twitter.com/AP_SportsJake Seiner, The Associated Press
FREDERICTON — The rookie Tory premier of New Brunswick has declared the Canadian federation fractured — with Ottawa and other provinces seemingly unconcerned about Alberta’s slump, and Quebec actively blocking economic development.Blaine Higgs says he was shocked at the recent First Ministers meeting in Montreal to find there is no national urgency or strategy to deal with the 70-per-cent devaluation of oil in Alberta.“Here’s a province that has fed many of our kids for years and we’ve all been happy to be recipients of that transfer payment. I’m not proud of that fact, and I would like to develop the very industry that they have,” Higgs said in a year-end interview with The Canadian Press.“But for us in that meeting, not to have that as the focal point a crisis in our country, as a serious impact on Alberta and potentially a serious impact on all of us, like it was just another day.”Higgs is pushing to revive the cancelled $15.7 billion Energy East pipeline project that would have moved western crude to refineries in Eastern Canada and an export terminal in Saint John, N.B., but Quebec Premier Francois Legault is opposed to it passing through his province.Legault recently provoked the ire of western Canadians when he said there was “no social acceptability” in his province for a “dirty energy” pipeline from Alberta. His comments drew rebukes from pundits and western leaders such as Alberta Premier Rachel Notley, who said Legault “needs to get off his high horse.”Higgs, a former oil executive, is proposing that federal transfer payments be cut to force provinces to develop their natural resources.“Here’s Premier Legault getting an increase, a cheque of more than $13 billion out of the $19 billion in transfer payments, and no real sense of urgency,” Higgs said.He said that as a result of devalued oil, Alberta is losing $80 million a day, and all the provinces — including New Brunswick — should share in the pain through cuts in transfers.“We should cut what goes to each province, based on our ability to get the resource to market,” he said.Higgs said the debate over Energy East demonstrates how the federation is fractured.“So with Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Ontario and ourselves — we are very much aligned — and Quebec in the middle in this case for transportation from west to east is not only disappointing, it’s really shocking,” he said. “I saw a willingness through every province but I didn’t see that willingness in Quebec.”Higgs said there should be a utility corridor across the country that could house pipelines, power transmission lines, and communication systems. He said, like the national railway, it would be a right-of-way through the country.Higgs said another area where the federation is fractured is with the way provinces are being treated differently by Ottawa when it comes to the carbon tax, which goes into effect next year. He said it is far from a level playing field, because the provinces are being asked to meet the same targets despite starting from different carbon-emission levels.New Brunswick is an intervener in legal challenges launched by Saskatchewan and Ontario and has launched its own legal challenge of the carbon tax.He said the proposed federal backstop — the tax Ottawa will impose in provinces without their own carbon taxes — puts New Brunswick at a disadvantage, and if it remains in place, New Brunswickers will be paying the country’s highest tax on gasoline by 2022.Higgs won a minority government in this fall’s election, having run on a platform of fiscal responsibility. The Liberals tried to cling to power, but were defeated in a confidence vote on their throne speech after the three members of the upstart People’s Alliance party agreed to support the Tories on confidence votes for at least 18 months.Looking out his office window at the spectacular view of the provincial legislature and the Saint John River, Higgs said he doesn’t take his time as premier for granted.“I took a picture of the view because I could only be here a short time,” he said.Higgs, a 64-year-old engineer and former finance minister, was hired by Irving Oil a week after he graduated from the University of New Brunswick. He was eventually promoted to director of distribution, overseeing oil transportation across eastern Canada and New England.Higgs said he needs to administer some tough fiscal medicine right away in order to get quick results. He points to his decision to slash $265 million from capital spending plans the previous Liberal government had in place.“I do want to make things happen in a hurry, but that’s kind of my nature. I like to look at an issue, look at the facts, and then get on with it, and not spend time going around and around.”He is vowing to balance the budget in the spring in an effort to avoid a downgrade of the province’s credit rating.“I do not want to pay more interest. I would rather have $25-30 million a year going into service delivery than interest payments,” Higgs said. Higgs said the province’s finances and the creation of a customer service focus for government are his priorities for 2019.The Canadian Press
Last week, TransCanada Corporation submitted a letter to the NEB in response to Mr. Sawyer’s jurisdictional challenge.Today, the City of Fort St. John issued a press release saying that mayor Lori Ackerman, along with the mayors of Burns Lake, Chetwynd, Dawson Creek, Fort Nelson, Houston, Kitimat, Mackenzie, New Hazelton, Pouce Coupe, Taylor, Terrace, Tumbler Ridge, and Vanderhoof, had penned a letter to Mr. Sawyer and the West Coast Environmental Law Association. In their letter, the mayors express support for the proposed LNG Canada project and disappointment with the timing of Mr. Sawyer’s jurisdictional challenge.“Both the proposed LNG Canada export facility and Coastal GasLink pipeline have been subject to very extensive and rigorous assessment and review processes that actively sought public comment,” the letter reads. “There has been opportunity to challenge the jurisdiction of these projects for years.”“It is with these sentiments that we find it disappointing that your challenge is being raised at this point in time, when the respective project partners are on the verge of making an investment decision on what could be the single largest private investment in our nation’s history; an investment decision that could deliver an abundance of benefits to so many people in our communities, region, province, and across our entire nation.”The District of Kitimat’s Director of Economic Development Michael Dewar said that not all communities that were invited to participate in the open letter had sufficient time to make a decision on whether or not to participate. He said that the letter will be re-released if additional communities decide to partner in the following weeks. The full letter can be read below. FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The mayors of fourteen communities in Northern B.C. released an open letter to the resident of Smithers that launched a jurisdictional challenge against the Coastal GasLink pipeline last month.Michael Sawyer, a former environmental consultant who worked in the oil and gas industry submitted the challenge, arguing that the $4.7-billion TransCanada pipeline should have faced a federal environmental review instead of a provincial one.Mr. Sawyer previously launched a similar challenge against TransCanada’s proposed Prince Rupert Gas Transmission pipeline, but that was rejected by the National Energy Board. However, last year the Federal Court of Appeal ruled against the NEB, saying that it must consider whether the pipeline fell under federal jurisdiction.
